I was a weightlifter since I was in high school. During my early years, which is little more that do bench press and loops in my garage at blaring hard rock music. Then I learned a few things more and took the pain of my local gym. I loved lift weight-heavy weights – and the more metal a sound they made when I their set after a series of killer, the better it will be.
At the time, if you had asked me if I preferred bands or the weight, I would have you snickering in a sort of condescending way. “Weight or bands. Please!” Was no doubt.
Now that I’ve evolved as a human being (and began working at home), I learned that while weights are great, there are specific to the use of the bands advantages more. While I do not think that I will never swear off lifting, there are certain situations and exercises where I wouldn’t can’t want to be without my game colored elastic rubber.
Best suited to you will depend on several factors. Here are a few that you may want to consider:
- Prize: if you are focusing primarily on your portfolio, bands carry a significant advantage. You can get a full set of 10 tapes of resistance for $119.95 (or less), which includes groups of 5 to 50 lbs. This should cover any exercise, you are going to do with training House like P90X or power 90. Some programs come with their own resistance group. If you need more weight, you can always double the band for the increased tension. To obtain a set of dumbbells covering the same spectrum of weight, you would either need to buy each set of weight individually (that could easily cost over $ 500) or get an adjustable dumbbell set. For a set of good quality, with a weight ranging from 5 to 52.5 lbs, pay you about $350. So if price is your primary consideration, the bands are the way to go.
- Portability: there are really that one option here if you’re travelling much. Resistance bands are very light and pack up easily in your suitcase. Dumbbells are incredibly heavy and you would cost a fortune in the expenses of excess weight on an aircraft. The only light, portable dumbbell I’ve seen is a you will need to fill with water at your destination and vacuum and then when it is time to come home. These kind tend to max at only 15 lbs, fully filled, so if you want something to cover the entire spectrum of your training sessions, I could be established with the bands.
- Usability: it is certainly just preference. Overall, I prefer dumbbells for more weighted exercises because they give you more consistent tension (especially at the bottom of each movement) and they are less difficult to implement and maintain. When you are switching between exercises frequently, it takes less time to capture a whole dumbbell to pick up a band, it sort out and position it evenly under your feet. However, for some years where a heavy weight is used (like squats or lawn mowers), I like the increasing tension provided by the bands, and it puts less strain on your forearm and back to try to hold a dumbbell 50 lb. You should test both in a variety of exercises and see which suits you best.
- Style: this is purely cosmetic, but it would be naive to think that this image does not factor into this decision to purchase. Some like would be their hidden weight, only to be seen during the training period. Bands would be the best in this scenario, as they are easy to pack away anywhere. However, if you want to highlight the fact that you training to all those that comes from your House, a pleasant together with a decorative stand adjustable dumbbell would certainly do the job. Depending on your personality, style may outweigh all other factors combined.
Therefore take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror. What matters to you most? Are what type of personality you? While I can have been snobbish weight before, I now have the weight and the bands and wouldn’t can’t want to be without either. Ultimately, whether you choose one or the other, it makes no difference. You will get great training is provided by the way use you it correctly. So to go to according to what will bring you happiness most.
Then bring it back pain!
